A Vancouver police officer has been charged after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in 2023, according to the province’s police watchdog.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC says on Sept. 29, 2023, an officer was responding to a call when his vehicle hit a woman on Commercial Drive.
The IIO says she was treated by firefighters at the scene but also got medical treatment on her own.
The civilian-led police oversight agency says the VPD reported the woman’s injury to the office a month later, and investigators concluded it met the threshold of “serious harm” under the B.C. Police Act.
Sgt. William Briscoe is facing one count of driving without reasonable consideration under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Briscoe is scheduled to appear in Vancouver Provincial Court Oct. 29.
