Man charged after allegedly sexually assaulting youth in Surrey’s Bear Creek Park

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says a man has been charged after an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a female youth in a local park Aug. 9.

Police say they were called to Bear Creek Park shortly after 8 p.m. after the victim was reportedly groped by a man. The suspect then left the scene.

The girl was uninjured, the SPS says.

On Aug. 12, police issued a public appeal for more information and released an image of the suspect. He was arrested later that same day.

A 40-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference, the SPS says. He remains in custody until his next scheduled court appearance on Aug. 17.
