City of Vancouver asking residents for input on 17 future ‘Villages’ plans

The City of Vancouver is requesting public input on 17 areas it has identified as future “Villages.”

As part of the Vancouver Plan — what the city describes as a “unified land-use framework to create a more livable, affordable, and sustainable city” — Villages are defined as areas with existing retail clusters that can evolve.

“The goal is for these future Villages to grow into vibrant, lively, and connected neighbourhoods,” the city said.

“Villages will enable ‘missing middle’ housing up to six storeys and new opportunities for shops and services, all within a short walk, bike, or roll.”

The plan is for Villages to be within a five-minute walk from key intersections.

The city is asking residents to read about the plans and take a survey by Jan. 3, 2025.

The 17 areas currently being planned are:

  • Macdonald Street and West 16th Avenue;
  • Macdonald Street and West King Edward Avenue;
  • Mackenzie Street and West 33rd Avenue;
  • Mackenzie Street and West 41st Avenue;
  • Angus Street and West 57th Avenue;
  • Granville Street and West 41st Avenue;
  • Oak Street and West 49th Avenue;
  • Oak Street and West 67th Avenue;
