Warm December weather breaks several records across B.C. Saturday

Unseasonably warm temperatures across British Columbia broke records for Dec. 22 in several areas Saturday, according to Environment Canada.

West Vancouver reached a high of 15.2 C, shattering the previous record of 13.2 C, set Dec. 22, 1986.

Prince Rupert beat a record that was in place for more than 60 years, reaching 14.8 C, compared with 11.7 C set in 1960.

The oldest record broken was in Estevan Point, which reached 13.8 C, beating the 13.3 C seen in 1940.

Qualicum Beach — with a new record of 13.1 C, beating 1967’s record of 11.7 C — and Port Hardy (new record 11.3 C, beating 10.7 C in 2005).

A total of 9 areas beat daily maximum temperatures, and one area — Blue River — hit a new record for a daily minimum, with -0.1 C. The previous daily minimum for this region was -0.5 C, set in 1946.
