The Surrey Police Service (SPS) and the RCMP are investigating a pair of unprovoked assaults that took place in Surrey Sunday.
Officers were called to a business on 120th Street near 64th Avenue shortly before 11:30 a.m. on a report of an assault in progress. When they arrived, they found two men had been assaulted — one physically and one with a weapon.
“Both victims were at the business when the suspect began to physically assault one of them, a staff member at the business,” Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said in a news release.
“When the other victim, a bystander, tried to intervene, he was assaulted with a weapon, believed to be knife.”
One of the victims was treated on scene and the other was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the suspect, who wasn’t known to the victims, left eastbound on 64th Avenue toward 121st Street.
He is described as 6’1″ with a heavy build and black hair, approximately 30 years old, wearing a light-coloured hoodie, beige pants, and white shoes. Police say he may have a knife.
“If you see the suspect, do not approach him,” Houghton said. “Call 911.”
Anyone with information or who was in the area and may have video or dash cam footage of the assault or the suspect is asked to call the SPS at 604-599-0502 and quote files 2025-11329 and 2025-7544. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
