Former Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson to run as Liberal candidate in federal election

Former Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson will be running in the upcoming federal election.

Robertson, who served as mayor between 2008 and 2018, announced Sunday he will be running as the Liberal candidate in the Vancouver Fraserview-South Burnaby riding.

The seat is currently held by Liberal MP Harjit Sanjin, who announced back in January he would not be seeking re-election.

While he was mayor, Robertson spearheaded the Greenest City 2020 Action Plan and promoted bike lane expansion. He also advocated for decriminalization and invested in the city’s overdose prevention sites.

Prior to serving as mayor, Robertson was the BC NDP MLA for Vancouver-Fairview between 2005 and 2008.

Robertson was the city’s longest consecutive serving mayor.
