Residents of two units displaced after condo fire in Surrey

Two condo units were damaged in a fire in Surrey Friday evening, leaving the occupants of both suites displaced for the time being.

The Surrey Fire Service tells 1130 NewsRadio says crews were called out to the four-story multi-residential housing unit at 152 Street near Guildford Drive around 6:30 p.m.

Assistant Chief of Operations Mike McNamara says the fire started on the fourth floor.

“Crews were able to contain the fire fairly quickly from the outside and then made an interior attack,” McNamara said.

“Crews went in there and just ended up ripping ceilings down and managed to get [damage] contained to the two units that were affected.”

As of 9 p.m. Friday evening, there was still no power in the building. McNamara says all residents, even those in unaffected units, are unable to go home until power is restored.

An inspection will be conducted in the morning to determine the cause of the fire.
