Paid parking becomes permanent at Spanish Banks Beach

The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation voted Monday night to make the paid parking pilot program at Spanish Banks Beach permanent.

Commissioners voted to approve the move, with the price increasing to $1.50 per hour from the pilot rate of $1.

The price to park may also increase next year to $2 per hour.

The board states that the revenue generated from the paid parking pilot has resulted in improved park maintenance and cleaning.

When the Vancouver Park Board implemented the paid parking measure in May 2024, resistance built, and a petition gained almost 4,000 signatures.

Many who opposed the measure then argued that the paid parking would limit accessibility for certain people.

The Park Board confirmed Monday that the city-owned EasyPark will be in charge of running the lots at the West Side beach.

Paid parking will be in effect all day, except for overnight hours.
