Earthquake ‘lightly felt’ on Vancouver Island

A small earthquake shook the southern coast of Vancouver Island Monday night.

Earthquakes Canada reports that a 3.6-magnitude quake struck around 18 kilometres southeast of Port Renfrew.

The quake, which happened just after 7:15 p.m., was “lightly felt” in the southern region of the island.

It was originally reported as a 4.1-magnitude event, but the measurement was revised twice throughout Monday night.

There are no reports of damage from the quake, and Earthquakes Canada says none are expected.
