Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke is setting the record straight about a rumoured eviction of three local Rotary clubs at South Surrey Athletic Park.
A letter earlier this month left the clubs worried they were being evicted from the facility.

“The City of Surrey has and will continue to support Rotary throughout our entire city, so I’m unclear where this misinformation came from,” she said.
“Unfortunately, some people decided to make this political.”
Some critics say the mayor is pitting the clubs against youth soccer and forcing the clubs out of the facility that helps fund them.
“I would have hoped that the partners would have been able to sort this out themselves, but unfortunately, they didn’t,” she said.
“Those fields are there for sport, so it was important that we supported teams, but we recognize that Rotary does do great work in our city.”
Locke says the Rotary clubs would still have an office, meeting, and kitchen space.
She adds that city staff is also working to find a new place where the clubs can store their books for an annual fundraiser.
