High-risk offender facing charges after police officer assaulted in Vancouver

A high-risk violent offender has been arrested and is facing charges after a Metro Vancouver Transit Police (MVTP) officer was assaulted on Wednesday.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., the officer approached 30-year-old Shakwan David Kelly outside Waterfront Station to discuss his open use of illicit drugs.

“The officer used a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), but with no effect.”
Kelly fled, but was arrested nearby.
The officer suffered minor physical injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Kelly is on probation for multiple violent stranger assaults in 2024. He remains in custody until his next court appearance.
