Seventeen years after a 24-year-old real estate agent was killed while showing a home in Saanich — marking one of the most high-profile murders in B.C. — her mother is making an urgent appeal for help.
On Nov. 2, what would have been Lindsay Buziak’s 42nd birthday, her mother, Evelyn Reitmayer, made a rare public statement in a YouTube video.

An emotional Reitmayer says she was recently told the police investigation had ended.
“And that the detectives assigned to the investigation were being transferred to other departments. It was a decision based on resources. The news has been devastating. Even though the years passed without answers, at least with it being an active investigation, I had hope that one day justice would be served. I’m frustrated and desperately seeking answers. I don’t know where else to turn.”
Saanich Police confirmed to 1130 NewsRadio that the investigation remains active.
“In prolonged investigations, it is standard practice for investigators to be periodically reassigned. These reassignments are part of routine operational adjustments and do not reflect any change in the status or priority of a case,” said Insp. Drew Robertson in an email.
“Our commitment to seeking justice for Lindsay remains steadfast. This investigation continues to receive dedicated attention from our Major Crime Unit, with support from partner agencies. Our investigators follow up on all credible tips and information received from the public.”
Investigators have always maintained there are people out there who know what happened to Buziak but haven’t come forward.
“Police have told me that there are people who could provide the evidence necessary to convict those responsible, but they are afraid or reluctant to become involved,” said Reitmayer.
“I’m directing my plea at you. If you think that it’s been a long, long time since Lindsay’s murder and nobody cares that it’s solved, you are very wrong. There are many people who cared deeply.”
“I’m frustrated and desperately seeking answers.”
Reitmayer says there’s not a day that goes by that she hasn’t thought about her daughter.
“I need answers and closure. Her sister Sarah’s life has been impacted in a horrific way. Her father struggles. Her aunts, uncles, cousins and friends — all of the people connected to each and every one of us cared deeply. Please, I’m begging you to contact the police. Maybe you were afraid before, and you were too young to understand how you would feel if your child was murdered, but now that you’re a parent, you see things from a different light. Please come forward. It’s never too late to do the right thing. To relieve yourself of the burden that you’ve carried all of these years, to share the truth, to be the person that brings peace to a broken-hearted mom.”
Buziak was stabbed to death on Feb. 2, 2008. No one has ever been arrested.
She had been showing a $1-million property to what she believed were prospective buyers — a man and woman who had contacted her previously, asking about the home. Her body was later found with multiple stab wounds on the second floor of 1702 De Sousa Place, which is in the community’s Gordon Head area.
In 2021, Saanich Police formed a task force with the help of both the RCMP and the FBI to bring renewed focus to the investigation and to use new DNA and genealogical technology, in hopes it would lead to a break in the case.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Saanich Police at 250.475.4321 or the Greater Victoria CrimeStoppers at 1.800.222.TIPS (8477).
