She died at the scene despite life-saving efforts by police.
Nobody else was reported injured in the incident.
Mounties had several city blocks shut down in the aftermath of the incident, from approximately Cambridge Street to Dundas Street, between Gilmore Avenue and North Carleton Avenue.

Photos of the area showed that police had barricaded an area outside the residence in Burnaby Heights.
One local resident told CityNews that his wife heard gunfire shortly before 8 p.m.
“It’s a very safe neighbourhood, and I feel safe, but it is close to home, and anything could happen,” he said, adding that the police response was reassuring but the incident as a whole was “unnerving.”
Witnesses are asked to contact the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.
The IIO is the civilian oversight agency for police and detention guards in B.C. It’s called in to investigate after any police-related incidents that result in death or serious injury, whether or not there are any allegations of wrongdoing.
