Police incident concluded at Maple Ridge mall: RCMP

Mounties say a man was detained under the Mental Health Act Wednesday night after an incident in the parking lot of Maple Ridge’s Haney Place Mall.

The Ridge Meadows RCMP descended on the shopping centre near 224 Street and Lougheed Highway around 11 p.m. after reports of a “disturbed individual” in a vehicle.

Officers reportedly found the individual, a man, and apprehended him without incident. He was then taken to hospital.

Police locked down the mall and asked the public to stay away overnight and through Thursday morning.

“The public is being asked to continue to avoid the immediate area until further notice. Parking is affected, however city facilities, transit services, and businesses in the area remain open,” said an RCMP statement around 9:45 a.m.
