Police investigating arson at Abbotsford alternative school

A fire at Bakerview Centre for Learning in Abbotsford is being investigated as arson. The Abbotsford Police Department responded to reports of a small fire at the school at around 3:50 a.m. on Monday morning. Angelina Ravelli reports.

A small fire at an Abbotsford school in the early hours of Monday morning is being investigated as arson.

The Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) say it responded to reports of the fire at the Bakerview Centre for Learning on Marshall Road near Broadway Street around 3:50 a.m.

“Upon arrival, officers found Abbotsford Fire and Rescue Service already on scene extinguishing a small fire,” said a police statement.

It adds that the building was damaged inside and out, but no one was reported injured.



The AbbyPD confirms the fire is suspected to have been an arson.

Bakerview, described as an alternative secondary school for students between the ages of 14 and 65, will be closed Monday and Tuesday while investigators work.

“Staff and families will be notified if the closure will extend beyond today,” said a notice on the school’s website.

Witnesses or those with dashcam video from the area at the time of the fire are asked to contact the AbbyPD at 604-859-5225.
