Surrey man arrested in Vancouver after holding a knife to a flagger’s throat in Burnaby

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says it has arrested a man in the Downtown Eastside after he allegedly used a knife to threaten a flagger in Burnaby Wednesday.

The Burnaby RCMP was called to the area of Olive Avenue and Central Boulevard shortly after 1 p.m. after reports of a man holding a knife to a flagger’s throat.

Right before officers arrived, the man was seen getting on a SkyTrain bound for downtown Vancouver.

Mounties then reached out to the VPD to let them know about the incident.

Around two hours later, Vancouver police officers saw a man matching the suspect’s description walking along East Hastings near Main Street.

He was arrested, and officers found he was in possession of a hunting-style knife.

The man, a 42-year-old resident of Surrey, was taken to jail in Vancouver before being turned over to the Burnaby RCMP.

The suspect has been charged with assault with a weapon and breach of probation. Police say he remains in custody until his next court hearing.
