Vancouver police arrest man who allegedly bear-sprayed cricketers and broke player’s arm

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says it is investigating after a man allegedly bear-sprayed a group of people playing cricket and then broke one of the players’ arms.
Police say they were called to Connaught Park in Kitsilano around 6 p.m. Saturday.
CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO 1130 NEWSRADIO VANCOUVER LIVE!“A game was underway when the suspect allegedly walked across the pitch and repeatedly interrupted the play,” the VPD said.
“Players and spectators asked him to leave, at which point the suspect allegedly became aggressive, shouting and swearing.”
Police say the suspect allegedly punched a 37-year-old player, bear-sprayed five people, and then fled the park.
“As the players followed him, the suspect allegedly turned around several times and continued to bear-spray them,” police added.
“The suspect then allegedly punched the 37-year-old again and tackled him to the ground, breaking the victim’s arm.”
The VPD says it was able to arrest the suspect a few blocks away from the scene.
Cst. Darren Wong tells 1130 NewsRadio that the suspect is known to police.
“As he’s known to police, he’s been released with strict conditions that he has to adhere to,” Wong said.
“Part of these conditions means no contact with the victims that he had these altercations with, along with the specific no-go areas that he has to stay away from.”
The suspect is expected to appear in court at a later date.
The victim was taken to hospital and later released.
