House fire in Mission injures one construction worker

A house fire on Thursday evening on a home under construction in Mission has injured one worker, say police.

The home on Cherry Avenue, was having its deck renovated when a container of vinyl adhesive caught on fire, report Mounties.

The burning adhesive came into contact with one of the three workers which caused him to fall off the deck to the concrete beneath it.

The 31-year-old from Chilliwack was transported to hospital with serious burns and other injuries from falling on the concrete, police say.

“Initial crews arrived to find a three-storey residential structure with heavy flame involvement at the rear of the building that had extended into the roof and interior main floors,” said Assistant Chief Nick Rychkun of Mission Fire and Rescue Services (MFRS).

The homeowners were not injured but firefighters from MFRS rescued two dogs.

More than 25 firefighters attended the incident.

WorkSafeBC attended the scene and are now investigating the matter.
