Car bursts into flames at Tsawwassen ferry terminal, causing service delays

A vehicle caught fire Friday afternoon in the waiting area at Tsawwassen ferry terminal, prompting an emergency response and causing delays to ferry service.

Terminal staff contacted the Delta Fire Department after the fire broke out and moved nearby vehicles away from the area as a precaution.

Passengers waiting at the terminal were directed to safe locations while announcements were made about the incident.

According to BC Ferries, firefighters arrived quickly and extinguished the blaze. No injuries were reported.

The fire resulted in delays to ferry operations, with the 5 p.m. sailing departing about 35 minutes behind schedule. Subsequent evening sailings were also affected.

Emergency crews later cleared debris from the scene, while police assisted with the removal of the burned vehicle.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
