Debris cleared along Highway 1 to allow wildfire crew access

Highway 1 remains closed to the public in the Boston Bar area as wildfire activity continues, but crews have cleared a landslide that had temporarily restricted access for firefighters.
A wildfire-related slope failure on Sunday sent trees and rocks onto the highway near the China Bar Tunnel, creating hazardous conditions and limiting the ability of BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) personnel to travel through the area safely.
Photos released Sunday afternoon showed the debris had been pushed to the sides of the roadway, restoring access for firefighters and other emergency personnel.
“While hazards from slope instability are present along that section of Highway 1, it remains available for our crews and staff to move through as operationally required,” said BCWS spokesperson Sam Bellion.
Despite the cleanup efforts, the highway remains closed to regular traffic.
According to officials, the closure between Toll Road and Jackass Summit, a stretch of approximately 64.1 kilometres, remains in effect and is not open to through traffic.
Emergency crews continue to monitor the area as wildfire conditions and slope stability concerns persist.
