Man charged after senior assaulted in Kitsilano

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says a suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged assault of a 73-year-old man last month.

This comes a day after police issued a public request for help finding the suspect in the incident.

“On Monday afternoon, police received multiple tips from members of the public reporting sightings of a man matching the description of the suspect near West 4th Avenue and Vine Street,” the VPD said Tuesday.

“Officers attended the area and arrested the man without incident.”

Police say the assault was first reported in the Kitsilano neighbourhood July 31.

“Investigators believe the suspect was yelling at passersby when the victim approached him and asked him to stop yelling and move along,” the VPD said Monday.

“The two men became involved in a verbal altercation, during which the suspect allegedly pushed the victim to the ground.”

The senior suffered head injuries as a result of the assault, police say.

A 53-year-old man has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and remains in custody pending a bail hearing, the VPD says.
