Another B.C. Conservative quits caucus, third this month

Another B.C. Conservative legislator has quit the opposition caucus, with Rosalyn Bird becoming the third this month to exit the party headed by new leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay.
Bird says in a statement that she will continue to represent Prince George – Valemount as an Independent, and that she has a responsibility “to reject hatred and discrimination.”
She announced her departure less than three hours after Findlay told a news conference more MLAs could leave, following Ian Paton who quit the party on Monday and Peter Milobar who left earlier this month.
Bird says British Columbians are tired of “political infighting, name-calling and division,” and that legislators should be able to disagree respectfully and work collaboratively if possible.
Paton and Milobar say they are forming a new party.
Bird says she’ll sit as an Independent and while her affiliation may be changing her responsibility to her riding is not.
