The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is looking for witnesses to an arrest in South Surrey on Oct. 12.
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) informed the IIO of an arrest of a person being injured during an arrest that took place at a residence.
The IIO says that the SPS received a report around 6:45 p.m. of a person attempting to break into a home in the 13500 block of 14th Avenue.
When SPS officers arrived on scene and located the suspect, the person was entering their basement suite.
SPS surrounded the residence and brought in members of the RCMP Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services.
The IIO says that ERT officers made entry to the basement suite in order to make an arrest. During the interaction, the suspect jumped through a broken window and was injured.
The suspect was then taken into custody and taken to hospital for treatment.
The SPS alerted the IIO of the interaction the next day and they started their investigation.
