Murder charge against Delta Police officer dropped

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Criminal Justice Branch says a charge of second-degree murder against Delta Police Constable Jordan MacWilliams has been stayed.

The Crown says after extensive witness interviews and a careful review, evidence no longer supports the charge.

MacWilliams had been accused of murder after a police-involved shooting near the Starlight Casino in November, 2012.

“[There’s] nothing in the over 9000 pages of disclosure that Crown provided that even indicates what they thought they could prove. And [they] haven’t been able to come up with an answer ever since they laid the charge last fall,” explains former Police Officer Leo Knight.

“It’s about time that Crown finally came to their senses on this and recognize that it was an impossible thing to do. You don’t charge a policeman for doing his job.”
