Johnny Mathis’ longtime home in the Hollywood Hills damaged by fire

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The longtime home of Johnny Mathis in the Hollywood Hills has been damaged in a fire.

Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the city’s fire department, says a vegetation fire spread to the hillside estate and caused extensive damage.

KTTV-TV reports the 80-year-old singer had just flown back to Los Angeles to learn that his house caught fire Monday evening.

Mathis told the station his house of more than 50 years was a total loss.

The singer is known for such hit songs as “Chances Are,” ”It’s Not for Me to Say” and “Too Much, Too Little, Too Late.”

He had launched a tour this year to commemorate his 60th year in the music industry. According to his website, Mathis performed in Cleveland on Sunday.
