Chinese consulate in Vancouver vandalized, VPD looks for two suspects

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police in Vancouver are on the hunt for two men accused of “mischiefs” at the Chinese consulate building in Vancouver.
Video shows the first suspect getting out of a dark-coloured Ford Escape and walking up to the front gate of the consulate near Granville Street and West 16th Avenue on March 22.
He’s seen spitting on a plaque dedicated to the Chinese consular general, before throwing “an unknown white substance from a take-out cup” on it. Police say he then tried to use a hammer to pry the plaque off the wall.

The suspect, believed to be in his 70s, is also at one point seen blocking a vehicle, which police say was driven by a consulate employee trying to leave the building. The VPD says the man held up signs and then spat on the vehicle.
He’s described as having a thin build and white hair. He was wearing a dark jacket, dark pants, dark shoes, and a dark baseball cap at the time of the incident.
About two weeks later, around 3 a.m. on April 4, police say another person walked up to the consulate and spray-painted the gate and surrounding wall.
This man, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, was also captured on camera. Video shows him walking away from the consulate after finishing the graffiti, walking north on Granville Street.

Police describe him as having a heavy build. He was wearing dark pants, a grey hooded sweater with a black “Batman” logo on the chest, and dark shoes at the time.
