B.C. Interior under heat warning as temperatures expected to soar to low 40s

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The worst of the heatwave is behind those who live in the Lower Mainland, but that’s not the case for the Southern Interior.
Friday was the hottest day of the heatwave for Metro Vancouver, but NEWS 1130’s weather specialist Michelle Yi says Saturday will be hotter for places beyond the region.
“Of course, they’re already dealing with the Special Air Quality statements. So it is a dangerous situation both with the heat as well as the air quality,” she explains.
Kamloops, Kelowna and Osoyoos are expecting temperatures in the low 40s.
Luckily, the mercury will dip overnight, unlike what we experienced during that heat dome last month.

However, fans might be useful for the nighttime.
“It is going to be a little uncomfortable trying to get to bed and we will see hot and muggy conditions for Monday morning.”
She says we haven’t had heat warnings over the last few summers, but already we’ve had two so far this year.
Meanwhile, the thick smoke which has been enveloping the interior because of wildfires means it could soon be hitting closer to home for those living in Metro Vancouver.
“There is a good chance — especially with the wind direction coming in from the south over the weekend — that we will notice some haze coming from a wildfire smoke across Metro Vancouver for the Interior. But with the Interior getting some significant rainfall on Sunday night. We should see that wildfire smoke clearing quite quickly,” Yi adds.
Saturday morning a smattering of rain came down in parts of Metro Vancouver, breaking a lengthy dry spell, however, the relief won’t last long as temperatures could spike to 29 degrees in Vancouver. With humidity, it’ll feel closer to 32 degrees.
