A baby is safe and sound now, after the car they were in was stolen in Surrey Tuesday morning.
According to the RCMP, the vehicle was left running in a driveway in the area of 172 Street and 58 Avenue around 8:30 a.m. when someone got in and drove off.
The one-year-old was strapped into a car seat inside at the time.
Mounties say resources were immediately deployed.
“We were in the process of doing that when thankfully a bystander located the vehicle abandoned,” said Sgt. Elenore Sturko.
The baby and vehicle were found at about 9:20 a.m. in the area of 177b Street and 59 Avenue.
“The baby was checked over by BC Emergency Health Services and was not physically injured,” Mounties say, adding the family involved has been provided with support.
“I can tell you that this call when it came in was a very high-priority call. Obviously a very upsetting and traumatizing event for the family. The baby is not physically injured, but as you can imagine, this is a very traumatic event for the entire family,” Sturko said.
“A lot of first responders, when we put out the call and heard the broadcast for this incident, multiple units deployed. Every available resource.”
No arrests have been made in connection with this incident and the search for the suspect continues. The RCMP is looking to speak with anyone who may have information about what happened.
