Vancouver experienced coldest Dec. 2 on Friday in close to 70 years

Vancouverites experienced the chilliest Dec. 2 on Friday to date, preliminary data gathered by Environment Canada revealed.
Temperatures plummeted to a low of -5.7 C on Friday; it was on Dec. 2, 1954 when the temperature dropped to similar levels at -5.6 C .

An arctic airmass is reported to have brought some record daily minimum temperatures across the province that day, including:
Abbotsford – New record at – 9.8 C; old record at – 6.2 in 2014
Agassiz – New record at -9.7 C; old record at – 9.0 set in 1985
Clinton – New record at – 28.8 C; old record at – 27.0 in 1985
Hope – New record of – 11.8 C; old record of – 8.3 in 1970
Lytton – New record of -20.7 C; old record of – 17.6 in 1985
Malahat – New record of – 4.6; Old record of – 4.3 in 1996
Osoyoos – New record of -18.3; old record of -16.5 in 1985
Princeton – New record of -28.5 ; Old record of – 26.6 set in 1985
Squamish – New record of -11.7; old record of -7.2 set in 2014
White Rock – new record of -6.4, old record of -5.4 set in 2014
According to Environment Canada, these records are based on a selection of historical stations in each geographic area that were active during the period of record.
