Nine kittens, ranging from 12 weeks to four-months-old were found abandoned at a Vancouver construction site earlier this month.
Taped up in two boxes, the BC SPCA says the kittens were found during the Lower Mainland’s bitter cold snap.
“When someone working at the construction site opened the boxes, they found the kittens huddled together for warmth and immediately brought them to the BC SPCA,” Jodi Dunlop, manager of the Vancouver animal centre, said.

The kittens were taken to a veterinarian right way, and Dunlop says that one of the kittens had an injury that had not been treated, and therefore it could not be saved.
“One of the other kittens we named Prancer was also suffering from an injury to her right front leg that is weeks old and, unfortunately, the leg will have to be amputated. Three other kittens required medical attention as well,” Dunlop said.
Even though Prancer has been “suffering, … it didn’t affect her disposition. She is the sweetest kitten. She kneads biscuits with her front left paw and is always so happy to have visitors.”
The kittens will be available for adoption within the next two weeks, and are staying at the Vancouver animal centre until they’ve fully recovered.
“People need to know that it is illegal to abandon an animal,” Eileen Drever, senior officer protection and stakeholder relations, said. “Thankfully there was someone at the construction site to find these kittens and bring them to us.”
