Free public WiFi will now be available on more of the TransLink network, according to the transit authority.
TransLink says, in partnership with Rogers, it has expanded internet access on all of its five RapidBus routes, as well as a selection of other articulated buses.
In addition, it says free WiFi is now available on most SeaBus vessels, some SkyTrains, at both SeaBus terminals, as well as Edmonds Station, New Westminster Station, Carvolth Exchange, and Langley Centre Exchange.
The transit authority adds its goal is to expand WiFi access to all its vehicles and hubs, noting installation work is ongoing. In the immediate term, it says it is prioritizing buses and SkyTrain routes that carry the most passengers.
“These upgrades come at no expense to TransLink,” the transit authority adds.
The project was initially a partnership between TransLink and Shaw. Rogers and that telecom company have since merged.
According to TransLink, about 24,000 devices connect to its WiFi system every day. It adds more than 215,000 gigabytes of free data have been used aboard transit or at transit hubs since the program first started.
Rogers is the parent company of CityNews.
