An investor group led by Las Vegas businessman Grant Gustavson has submitted a formal bid to Major League Soccer to buy the Vancouver Whitecaps and relocate the club, according to multiple reports.

The proposal includes plans for a privately financed, soccer-specific stadium, with no public funding.

Details of the venue and terms of the offer were not disclosed.

The bid comes as MLS reviews the Whitecaps’ long-term future amid ongoing concerns about stadium control and revenue in Vancouver.

The B.C. government owns and operates BC Place, where the team plays, and has offered financial concessions but ruled out buying the club.

Premier David Eby said this week the province is “at the table fighting hard” to keep the Whitecaps in Vancouver.
