NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – North Vancouver Mounties say a witness tackled a jewellery store thief who had just taken part in a $200,000 heist.
Ashley Russell-Taylor was in the Capilano Mall food court with his 17-month-old daughter. “We were just walking through… all of a sudden heard a lot of yeling and screaming, people shouting for security.”
Mounties say a teenager and three men were making a run for it after a robbery. Russell-Taylor says he saw one of the suspects coming toward him. “And I was able to take the guy down. After that, about three or four people jumped on top of him and the police arrived shortly after that.”
The three other suspects were able to get away by bear spraying people around them. His daughter and passers-by are all okay.
Police later found the men, who are from Surrey and Burnaby. They’ve since been charged.
