Surrey crews extinguish car fire at Central City Mall

Emergency crews were called out to a mall in Surrey on Saturday afternoon after a car caught fire.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service crews made their way to Central City Mall, where Assistant Chief Rich Bodnark says the fire happened in the mall’s underground parking lot.

“We had 12 firefighters with four apparatus on scene,” Bodnark said. “It was a standard vehicle fire, cews suppressed the fire immediately. There was no extension into the building it was in.”

Bodnark says, while the smoke was an issue, the fire was put out quickly.

“My compliments to the crews that they did a quick job responding,” he said.

No injuries were reported and Bodnark says the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
