Police are saying the investigation of a B.C. woman who went missing 13 years ago, still continues.
Madison Scott disappeared from Hogsback Lake while celebrating a friend’s birthday. Police said she was 20 years old when she was last seen early in the morning of May 28, 2011.
In a release Tuesday, Mounties say that early in the investigation it was determined that her disappearance was “out of character” because she was not in contact with her family or friends and they had suspected foul play.
However, her remains were located on a rural property in Vanderhoof one year ago. The announcement of the discovery came 12 years to the day after Scott was reported missing.
Mounties say that they appreciate the public’s interest in the case and hope to provide more details related to the case.
“However, no further information can be released at this time in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation,” they said.
The investigation into Madison Scott’s disappearance has been led by the BC RCMP Major Crime Section Special Projects Unit along with the Vanderhoof RCMP.
RCMP says the investigation remains active and ongoing.
“Police need further help to find justice for Madison Scott and her family,” it said.
Scott’s family say she was a vibrant, free-spirited, loyal and kind person
This past April, it was Scott’s birthday. She would have been 33-years-old.
Police say that on a ‘Justice for Maddy’ Facebook account, the family posted a message to commemorate the day and thank the public.
“The significance of this year is that it is approaching one year since her remains were discovered. While finding Maddy has yielded some relief, it has since generated many other questions that remain unsolved. It is challenging to comprehend the varying emotions that we experienced at that time,” it said.
“We are unwavering in our belief that justice will be obtained.”
Mounties and Scott’s family is asking the public for help in solving the case of her disappearance.
The Scott family is offering $100,000 in reward for any information leading to an arrest and laying of charge(s) of whoever is responsible for her disappearance.
RCMP is asking the public, should they have any new information, to call 778-290-5291 or 1-877-543-4822, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if you wish to stay anonymous.
