Surrey trailer fire kills 1, police investigating

A person died in a Surrey trailer fire Wednesday evening, firefighting crews confirmed.

Mounties said they were called around 5:00 p.m. to a trailer fire near 84th Avenue and 121A Street.

Speaking to CityNews, Surrey Fire Service Assistant Chief Mark Seter explained when fire crews arrived, they found a “fully involved camping trailer.”

“Crews extinguished the fire and during part of the operation when they made entry Inside they found an individual deceased,” he said.

Seter said the cause of the fire is unknown, but it does not appear to be suspicious.

“The police are holding the scene pending investigation. … investigators for [are] attending this evening.”

In a statement Thursday morning, Surrey Mounties says the BC Coroner’s Service will conduct an autopsy to determine the victim’s cause of death.

The RCMP is asking anyone with information about the fire to contact the Surrey detachment at 604-599-0502.
