Weekend sports round-up

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks (17-14) continue their eight game homestand against the Minnesota Wild (14-13-0-3) Saturday night.  The Canucks began with a 4-2 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers (15-11-1-2) Thursday night.  Daniel Sedin scored his third career hat-trick in the win.

The Wild make their way to Vancouver with a game Friday against the Calgary Flames.  The Canucks begin the weekend a point behind the 8th place Dallas Stars for the final playoff position in the NHL’s Western Conference.

In Western Hockey League action, the Vancouver Giants (20-11-1-2) are home to the Kamloops Blazers (13-15-2-2) Friday night.  The Giants are coming off a 5-0 win over the Chilliwack Bruins on Wednesday and have won two of their last three games and own a seven-point first place lead in the WHL’s B.C. Division. The Blazers haven’t played since a 3-2 home ice win over the Prince George Cougars.

The Abbotsford Heat continue their American Hockey League road trip with a game versus the Rochester Americans Friday afternoon.  The game can be heard on News1130’s sister station Country 107.1 starting at 4 p.m.

B.C. Hockey League action on Friday night also includes Burnaby hosting Victoria at 7:30 p.m. at the Bill Copeland Arena in Burnaby.
