VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving Canada, younger generations are getting the message about planning a ride home before a night out, it’s the older generations who are not.
According to MADD Canada President Margaret Miller, campaigns targeting young people have been working. It’s the older generations that think they can make it home safe after a few glasses of wine. “The most resistance is coming from an age group that has been drinking and driving for 20, 30, maybe 40 years — and don’t think that anybody has any right to tell them to change.”
Miller adds that police across the country are noticing younger adults are pooling their money for cabs or making sure there’s a designated driver. It’s good timing – considering we’re in the midst of the Christmas Party season.
Still, over the last five weeks, Vancouver Police have recommended more than 100 impaired driving charges and handed out over 500 roadside suspensions.
