VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Competing at the Olympics can be stressful enough — but it helps having loved ones around. In 2010, Petro Canada’s “Canadian Athlete Family Program” will host two members of every Canadian Olympian’s immediate family.
Former figure skater Kurt Browning says that means tickets, meals, accommodation and transportation to venues will all be taken care of. “What this does, besides a great feeling of knowing all our athletes are going to have family representing them at the Olympics, it takes a lot of stress off the athlete. They don’t have to worry about Mom and Dad.”
Browning says he was lucky enough to have his family at each of his three Olympic appearances — but says it was difficult because his parents had to pay their own way on two of those occasions.
