SASKATOON (NEWS1130) – Those Team Canada jerseys are awfully heavy when you’re carrying the hopes and dreams of a country.  Hockey Canada has made the long anticipated announcement this morning of the 23 players representing our country at the Olympics.

Martin Brodeur, Marc-Andre Fleury and Roberto Luongo have been named as the goaltenders for the 2010 squad.

On defence, Scott Niedermayer will be captaining the team. Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Shea Weber are all from British Columbia.  Rounding out the seven on defence are Dan Boyle, Drew Doughty, and Chris Pronger, who will also serve as an alternate captain.

Up front, Sidney Crosby and Jarome Iginla have been named alternate captains. Also on the team Patrice Bergeron, Ryan Getzlaf, Dany Heatley, Patrick Marleau, Brenden Morrow, Rick Nash, Corey Perry, Mike Richards, Eric Staal, Joe Thornton and Jonathan Toews. Bergeron made the squad despite not being among the 46 players invited to the summer orientation camp in Calgary.

Several players that were part of the 2006 Olympic team (that finished 7th) were left off the roster, including Vincent Lecavalier, Shane Doan, Simon Gagne, Ryan Smyth, Martin St. Louis, Robyn Regehr and Jay Bouwmeester.
