Former member of Red Scorpions gang pleads guilty to murder charges

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – A former member of the Red Scorpions gang will spend at least the next 25 years behind bars.  Anton Hooites-Meursing, 39, pleaded guilty in B.C. Supreme Court to two counts of first degree murder.

RCMP say Hooites-Meursing came forward on his own, saying he wanted to get out of the gang lifestyle–preferring to spend 25 years in prison than live outside as a gangster.  He admitted to killing two people, one in 2001 and the other in 2003.  One was in connection with a drug rip-off and the other was in retaliation for the attempt on the life of his friend.

Corporal Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says the murders had direct links to drugs, gangs and organized crime.  “This is one of the end results to gang lifestyle is ending up in jail.  The other end results often times is death.”

Hooites-Meursing will spend 25 years in prison before he has a chance at parole.
