Former Vancouver mayor dies

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A former Mayor of Vancouver has passed away at the age of 82. Jack Volrich was Mayor between 1976 and 1980.

He initially won election as a councillor in 1972 and served two, two-year terms before running for mayor. He was defeated by Mike Harcourt in 1980.

Volrich is credited in helping to plan for the trade and convention centre, BC Place Stadium, Expo ’86 and Vancouver’s first rapid transit system. He also opened the Granville Island Sea Wall in March 1977.
