Student who died at Capilano Suspension Bridge warned earlier about going over barriers

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – RCMP have ruled out foul play in Sunday’s death of a California high school student at Capilano Suspension Bridge.  Police say Daniel Cho, 17, went over a 4-foot-high barrier under his own power.  They also say Cho had earlier been seen going over similar barriers in a different location and had been warned to stop.

RCMP say no one saw how Daniel Cho, 17, was able to get over the railing in the ‘Nature’s Edge Walk’ area.  Cho fell to his death in the Canyon below.

RCMP Constable Michael McLaughlin says video surveillance of the platform area didn’t catch the fatal moment either. “Our investigators have spent a couple of intensive days going over surveillance video and talking to a lot of witnesses.  What they’ve established is there was no criminal intent in the death of Daniel Cho.  This was simply a sad event where a young man put himself in a deadly situation.”

RCMP say the criminal investigation is over and the information is being passed on to the B.C. Coroner’s office.  Cho had been visiting on a grad trip with his class.
