Nanaimo man arrested on child pornography charges

NANAIMO (NEWS1130) – RCMP in Nanaimo have arrested a 24-year-old man on child pornography charges after an investigation that started overseas – in Hertfordshire, England.

Constable Gary O’Brien says U.K. police contacted the Mounties’ Child Exploitation Centre in Ottawa last July, after a Nanaimo man surfaced during one of their investigations.

He says the information eventually made it to Nanaimo RCMP, who got a search warrant, searched the man’s apartment on Tuesday and arrested him. “A number of hard drives and data recording devices were seized.  He was taken into custody and later released on a promise to appear for charges of possession of child pornography and making available child pornography charges.”

The suspect is slated to appear in court in March of next year. He’s not to have contact with any children under the age of 13. O’ Brien says they have dealt with the man before, but won’t say how.
