VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Power was lost for the fourth time in as many days in Vancouver. Late Tuesday morning, up to 10,000 B.C. Hydro customers were without power.
The areas that were heavily impacted were between Cambie and Granville Streets and between Broadway and King Edward.
B.C. Hydro says the cause of the outage is “equipment malfunction.” The company’s Simi Heer says the situation is “complicated.” “We do have a very large and complex system. We have about 75,000 kilometres of distribution and transmission lines and close to 300 substations. We generally have a really reliable system,” she says.
Monday roughly 20,000 customers were without power and over the weekend over 60,000. Saturday’s outage was blamed on a fault at one of the company’s substations. B.C. Hydro confirms Tuesday’s outage has nothing to do with any of the previous problems.
