MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – A fundraiser has been held in Maple Ridge to keep the search going for missing hiker Tyler Wright, and it turned out to be a bigger success than organizers predicted.
Over 100 people turned out to raise $5,000; that money will be donated to search and rescue crews looking for Wright. It will also be used to fund private choppers combing through the last known area he was seen in, which was the Boise Creek Trail near Squamish.
Jasmina Koga, who has been friends with the 35-year-old since they were in Grade 8, says they remain hopeful he’ll be found. “He has the supplies and I did hear one of the members of Search and Rescue saying somebody can survive in that type of condition for a long time, there’s lots of berries and fresh water.”
She adds he has the skills to survive. “Did he run away, is he lost up there and does he not want to be found? I don’t believe that for a second. He’s very attached to his family, he’s got a lot of friends and I don’t think he’s just up there running away.”
The experienced outdoorsman was last seen August 10th, after setting off for a hike by himself. He was expected back six days later. A video by search crews has been released and a website with updated information about Wright has been created.
