A Vancouver dancer in the SYTUCDC’s top 16
She’s dancing her way to the top
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – She is from Vancouver and she is one of the few constants left on So You Think You Can Dance Canada.
A ballerina by training, 20-year-old Kirsten Wicklund is one of 16 contenders left, says sometimes you’re pushed out of your comfort zone. “Me and Jera got a 90’s style hip hop routine. That was way out of my element. We just had to go into it with positive attitude and just kind of be like, ‘You know, we could look like total idiots.'”
She says it’s a grueling schedule, early mornings, long days and no sleep. “We get about 4.5-5 hours with a choreographer. They’re scheduling wardrobe fittings for us, interviews, they have to allow us certain amount of time for hair and make-up.”
Wicklund says one of the biggest stresses is watching fellow dancers, who’ve become friends be voted off. She says the best part is getting up on stage in front of all those people, and with the cameras rolling showing Canada how well she can bust a move.
