Jose Bautista hits number 50

TORONTO (NEWS1130) – Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista has hit his 50th home run of the baseball season, becoming the 26th player in baseball history to reach the milestone.

The slugger continues his MVP calibre season, sending a 2-1 offering from the Seattle Mariners’ Felix Hernandez into the left field bullpen, in the bottom of the first.

Alex Rodriguez (54) and Prince Fielder (50) were the last players to hit 50, both in 2007.

Bautista established a new single-season franchise record when he hit his 48th homer last Friday in Boston, passing George Bell.
