NANAIMO (NEWS1130) – You can skip the gym if you plan on catching a cab at the Nanaimo ferry terminal. High parking fees mean travellers will have to hike an extra five to seven minutes to grab a taxi.
Cab companies in Nanaimo got a letter from BC Ferries saying as of Thursday morning, they have to pay about $18,000 a year if they want to park at Departure Bay.
Mike Reeves with AC Taxi says cabbies don’t want to pay that much, so they’re parking on a not-so-nearby street. “The issue becomes of course for the customer, for that consumer that is looking for a taxi and having to walk up to the end of BC Ferries property to load out.”
Reeves says cabbies are asking for a face-to-face meeting with BC Ferries, but so far they haven’t heard back from the company.
