Former coroner facing indignity to human remains charges

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Disturbing charges have been laid against a former Lower Mainland coroner who worked with police.

Sixty-one year old Kenneth Glen Mattison is charged with breach of trust and offering an indignity to human remains.

The investigation goes back to last year when Mattison was working on a pair of homicides – one in Coquitlam, the other in Langley – when homicide investigators thought they saw the coroner do something illegal.

But RCMP Sergeant Peter Thiessen won’t get into specifics. “What is means is that in the manner that that body was examined we’re alleging was criminal in nature and that’s about as far as we’re prepared to comment.  It can mean any number of things.”

Thiessen says the families of the victims have been told about the allegations – and are very upset with what’s happened.
